What’s New: July (and June) 2013

www.office.com/setup Blogs: June and July have been busy months for the Office 365 and related teams.  On the mobile apps front, we’ve new releases and major updates for Office, OneNote, OWA, and Lync across multiple platforms, such as Windows Store, iOS, and Android.   Yammer and SharePoint saw the first step at integration and we’ve streamlined various setup activities.  We’ve also introduced Office 365 in 38 new markets so even more people can benefit from productivity services.   You can look forward to more updates for Office 365 in the weeks and months ahead!

Office 365 Home Premium & Office 365 University updates:

Office Mobile for iPhone – Mobile versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for iPhone for Office 365 subscribers with Office included.

July:

OneNote updates for iOS and Android and Windows Store app

Lync – Skype integration – Connect with Skype contacts from within Lync

Make Yammer your default social network – Office 365 admins can now choose to have Yammer be the default social network in Office 365, including a link from the navigation bar

Office Mobile for iPhone – Mobile versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for iPhone for Office 365 customers with Office included in their subscription

GoDaddy custom domains – Office 365 can automatically configure GoDaddy domains to work seamlessly with Office 365

SkyDrive Pro Apps for Windows Store and iOS – View your SkyDrive Pro files on your mobile devices and choose which ones you want access to while offline

Simpler email aliases – Small Business customers can now easily create email aliases

July:

 

Office Mobile for Android phones – Mobile versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Android phones for Office 365 subscribers with Office included.

OWA for iPhone and OWA for iPad – Manage email, calendar, and contacts on iOS devices using the mobile optimized Outlook Web App for Office 365 users with Exchange Online

SharePoint Newsfeed app for Windows Store – Read and create posts for your newsfeed, see updates from sites, and snap to the side for better multitasking

Lync 2013 desktop client updates – New features include images in IM chat, see and join Lync meetings from the desktop client directly; meeting organizers can mute IM chat and can manage Q&A with a new presenting tool.

Lync Windows Store App updates – see upcoming meetings and join from within the app, see contacts availability and start chats and calls while Lync is “snapped,” join meetings anonymously, view presenter slides, and more.

Lync meetings improvements – Turn any iPhone and Windows Phone conversation into an online meeting; see and join Lync meetings from the desktop client directly; meeting organizers can mute IM chat and can manage Q&A with a new presenting tool.

Excel Web App updates – New features including freeze panes, header row snapping, sort, hiding worksheets, data validation, and autocomplete.

Opening PDFs in Word Web App – Quickly view PDFs in SharePoint Online and SkyDrive Pro with the Word Web App

OneNote updates for iOS and Android and Windows Store appOneNote now connects with Office 365 and SkyDrive Pro for notebook storage.  Additional features updated in each app as well.

Password sync now available in DirSync – DirSync can now sync password hashes so that users can login with the same credentials for their company domain and Office 365

Office 365 available in 38 new markets, 3 new languages, and 5 new currencies

Looking ahead:

Power BI for Office 365 – Power BI for Office 365 Preview will give powerful new tools for analysis such as Power Maps, Power Query, Power BI mobile apps, and more.

 

Please note some of the above updates may take time to show up in your Office 365 account as they are being rolled-out to customers world wide.
